What Indeed are Dedicated Servers?

When we speak of web hosting servers, there are three major kinds - shared website hosting servers, VPS (virtual hosting servers) and dedicated servers. Shared hosting servers host many clients and therefore the resources per hosting account are limited, VPS packages offer more server configuration autonomy, but also affect other virtual private web hosting servers on the hardware node if used unwisely, and dedicated servers give you the independence to perform everything you see fit without messing with anyone else.

Why would you require a dedicated server?

Dedicated servers are normally much more expensive than shared hosting servers or virtual private web hosting servers. Why would anyone, then, use them? The explanation is rather simple. If your corporation has a popular site, or just has very exact server setup requirements, the right option is a dedicated server. For somebody who is ready to invest in security and dependability, the greater price is of no concern. You obtain full server root access and can use 100 percent of the physical server's resources without anyone else availing of these system resources and meddling with your sites.

Hardware configurations

The majority of hosting suppliers, including us at Mindfox Hosting Solutions, offer different hardware architectures you can choose from in line with your requirements. The hardware configurations include different types of microprocessors, a different amount of cores, different RAM and hard disk sizes and different monthly bandwidth usage quotas. You can select a hosting CP, which is a convenient user interface if you want to use the dedicated web server for website hosting purposes only and choose not to use an SSH terminal for all the changes you will be making. We provide three types of web hosting CP software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The hosting Control Panel of your preference

If you are a self-confident Linux user (our hosting servers are running on Linux or other Unix-based Operating Systems), you could manage your dedicated server through an SSH connection exclusively. That, however, could be awkward, especially if you choose to give complete root-level access to someone else who has less technical proficiency than yourself. That is why having web hosting Control Panel software pre-activated is a good idea. The Hepsia web hosting Control Panel GUI that we provide does not include complete root access and is mostly suitable for someone who has multiple online portals that absorb lots of system resources, but desires to manage the online portals, databases and e-mail aliases through an easy-to-use hosting CP. The DirectAdmin and cPanel Control Panels, on the other hand, give you full server root access and include 3 levels of access - root, reseller and user. If you intend to resell web hosting plans instead of using the dedicated web hosting server solely for yourself, you should select one of these two.

Web server monitoring and backup procedures

Last but not least, there is the issue of monitoring the dedicated server and of backing it up. In case of a problem with your web hosting server, like an unresponsive Apache or a network downtime, it is useful to have some sort of monitoring system activated. Here at Mindfox Hosting Solutions the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you have a Managed Services package, they monitor the individual services on the dedicated server as well. Backups are also an additional option - the web hosting supplier offers you data backups on our own backup web servers. You could choose a type of RAID that would permit you to save the same data on two server disk drives as a protective measure in the event of a server hard disk drive failure, or in case someone whom you have ranted complete root access deletes something by accident.
